FAQs Regarding Car Leasing

Please find below a list of Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any questions/queries that aren't answered, please call one of our friendly members of staff on 01625 871 555 and they will be more than happy to help.

End of Contract

PVS believe there should be no “grey area’s and have championed a fair system of used vehicle appraisal.

Historically the leasing industry had been criticised for levying unfair charges at termination. This is no longer the case. We all accept that a damaged car in poor condition will have a lower value than one in average condition. But what constitutes fair or average condition?

All the end line funders PVS have chosen to work with have agreed to work within the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Charter. This charter was written by the RAC as an independent arbiter.

The aim of the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Guide is to provide an industry-wide, accepted standard that defines fair wear and tear on passenger cars when they are returned to a BVRLA Member at the end of a contract or finance agreement. This guide covers all passenger vehicles including multiple passenger vehicles (MPVs) with up to eight seats.

A copy of the charter is available and can be sent to you. The charter does not compromise your rights as a consumer.

Car Total Life Costs

What are total life costs?

The Total Life Cost of a vehicle is the total of all the things you tend to forget when you are buying a car. They might seem irrelevant but they should form part of your decision making.

Depreciation is the single biggest cost in car ownership. All cars lose money over time and weather you lease or buy the car it still loses the same amount. The question is how much will it lose and who is taking the risk. The cars depreciation will depend on make, model, specification and usage. Every car performs differently. Finally, the end value is guaranteed by the funder in the case of a lease or you. As Mr Eastwood once said “do you feel lucky?”

Speak to us and let us set out the alternatives.

Servicing, maintenance, tyres, batteries and exhausts together with consumables such as brake pads and windscreen wipers are all budgettable. Let us provide you with an accurate estimate whilst accounting for your intended mileage. You may decide to take a comprehensive service agreement.

Interest rates play a part in the overall cost. If you simply draw the money from your bank you will lose interest which should be factored into the equation. All our leases are fixed, the cost will not increase with interest rates.

Finally, the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) is due to increase substantially to over £950 per annum for certain vehicles. Some leases already have this cost built into your monthly rental.

Part of our service is to independently provide you with the information to allow you to make a value judgement.

Affinity Schemes

PVS currently manage a number of branded Affinity Schemes on behalf of clients who want to extend an employee benefits package to staff who do not normally receive a company car. Usually sitting under the heading of “Employee Benefits” on the internal Intranet system the employees see real benefits for themselves and their families. PVS continually update their systems to ensure that employees feel the substantial benefits from the Scheme which enhances their overall employment package.

The Affinity Scheme offers both vehicles and finance at highly competitive rate which a private individual would not normally be able to access. A leasing company buys cars in a very different way to a private individual by negotiating with both the dealer and the manufacturer. Your employee buys on average one car every 4/5 years. We would buy several thousand cars per manufacturer per year.

Provided the company has enough potential members for a Scheme PVS would cover all initial start up charges. All enquiries generated by the Scheme go directly to PVS meaning no management time is involved. We are also able to offer a company specific secure website should there be no intranet site.

For more information on how an Affinity Scheme could benefit your company and your employees please contact us at: affinity@pvsol.net

Duty of Care

Company car driver banned for 16 years

29 April, 2010

A licence check has revealed a company car driver had been banned from driving for 16 years without confessing to his employer.

The unnamed driver received four, four-year driving bans in the space of 16 weeks. Two four-year bans for drink-driving were followed by two separate incidents of driving while disqualified and a number of other related offences such as supplying false details and driving without insurance.

When was the last time you completed a licence check for your company car users?

Yes exactly!!!

Duty of Car compliance is now a mandatory requirement for most companies. PVS are able to inspect, audit and recommend a cost effective system for your compliance.
